The Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions in the Republic of Bulgaria elected the Rector of UNWE Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov as Secretary General of the Council during its reporting and election meeting held on 7 July of the current year.

The new Chairman of the Council of Rectors is Prof. Anastas Gerdjikov, Rector of St. Climent Ohridski University of Sofia, and Deputy Chairmen are Prof. Hristo Beloev, Rector of the University of Ruse and Prof. Galya Hristozova, Rector of Burgas Free University.
The Council of Rectors unites the Rectors of all Bulgarian universities. Some of its objetcves are: to support its members and to assist building a stable and open university system; to participate in the formulation of state policy in the field of higher education and research; to protect the common interests of higher education institutions to public and state institutions; to provide the academic community a forum for discussing current topics related to the higher education, science and university policies; to represent higher education institutions at national and international forums on issues of higher education and research; to promote good cooperation between all the universities as well as between the universities and other organizations.
