Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and his delegation paid a visit to Shanghai Jiao Tong University on July 5th. President Radev visited the SJTU Bulgarian Center and delivered an inspiring speech for the university faculties and students.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University launched the Bulgarian Center in January 2016, the first of its kind in China. In December 2018, a branch center in University of National & World Economy, Sofia was established. Focusing on modern agriculture, rural development, international relations, political economy, law and social governance, the SJTU Bulgarian Center strives to establish a platform for global collaboration in science, technology, education and culture between China and Bulgaria. Representatives from SJTU introduced the center and its recent activities to President Radev.

During the meeting with SJTU leadership, Professor Jiang Sixian briefed the delegation on the development of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and its cooperation with Bulgaria.

Jiang Sixian expressed his sincere congratulations to President Radev on his successful visit to China. Jiang said that the SJTU Bulgarian Center has received strong support from Bulgaria since its establishment. So far, SJTU has established collaborative relationship with the University of Sofia, University of National and World Economy, Agricultural University of Plovdiv, Bulgarian Academy of Science, Institute of Agricultural Economics-Sofia, etc. in areas of joint research, student exchange as well as talent cultivation programs.
Later, President Radev delivered a speech to the university faculties and students.

In his speech, President Radev said this was his first visit to China. He had been highly impressed by the achievements of Chinese people as well as the development of Shanghai. President Radev stressed that it was the responsibility and mission of young talents to make the world a better place; he felt delightful to discuss the future with young people in China and Bulgaria. Although the two countries are far away from each other and have a huge difference on population and GDP, the two sides have a similar history, and both peoples strive for stability, peace and prosperity. The Sino-Bulgarian relation has been upgraded to strategic partnership. He strongly believes that the leadership of the two sides will move forward fast and have positive achievements very soon.

Afterwards, President Radev answered questions concerning increasing investments between the two countries and deepening exchange and collaboration in science, education, and culture.

After the speech, President Radev and Professor Jiang Sixian exchanged gifts. On behalf of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Jiang Sixian presented President Radev with a traditional Chinese painting, created by famous artist, Prof. Zhan Renzuo from SJTU, wishing for a prosperous partnership between the two sides.
