Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mariana Kotseva is the new Director-General of the EU statistic office – Eurostat. Her appointment by the European Commission makes her the Bulgarian representative occupying the highest level position in the EU administration.

Assoc. Prof. Kotseva has joined Eurostat as a special adviser in 2012, becoming its Deputy Director-General in 2014. Prior to joining the European Commission, she has been the President of Bulgarian National Statistical Institute (NSI).
Mariana Kotzeva has graduated from the UNWE, speciality Statistics and Econometrics. In 1996 she has acquainted the scientific degree of Doctor and her dissertation topic was "Opportunities for Improvement of Financial Statistics in the Republic of Bulgaria during the Transition to Market Economy". In 2003 she has become an Associate Professor. She is a lecturer at the Statistics and Econometrics Department and prior to it she has been Scientific Secretary of the Department. She has command of English, French and Russian language. Assoc. Prof. Kotseva has been a guest-lecturer at many European universities.
Eurostat is the statistical office of the European Union situated in Luxembourg. Its mission is to provide high quality statistics for Europe. Providing the European Union with statistics at European level that enable comparisons between countries and regions is a key task.
