For a second consecutive year our chess team won the student champion cup. The tournament was held in seven rounds on the Swiss system and in it took part the teams of UNWE, National Sport Academy, St. Climent Ohridski University of Sofia, Technical University, New Bulgarian University, Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv, St. St. Cyril and Methodius University of Veliko Tarnov, Angel Kanchev University of Rousse.

In the championship participated seven students from the UNWE: the first-year students Velizar Sofranov, Peter Todorov and Kristian Yankov, the second-year student Ivaylo Stoyanov and the third-year students Petko Nikolov, Ivan Georgiev and Grigor Pertov. The best in the chess play was Petko Nikolov and the other chess players had a decisive contribution to the team ranking.
Our student girls were represented by Alexandrina Ivanova who occupied the third place at individual ranking and by Ivana Ivanova.
