Public Lecture on The Small Countries in The International Relations: Opportunities and Challenges

Prof. Mitchel Belfer, lecturer at the Metropolitan University Prague (MUP) delivered to students from the professional field of Political Science a public lecture on the Small Countries in the International Relations: Opportunities and Challenges.

The lecturer exposed his points of view about the challenges of modern times and assessed them not by the point of globalization but as a result of the unsolved issues in the XX century. He made a historical overview of the World Wars, the collapse of major empires, conflicts between the Balkan states and emphasized on the fact that those events had made people to realize themselves and look for solutions. The history should be assessed with responsibility to the future enabling the next generation to learn its lessons and avoid mistakes, outlined Prof Belfer. He reminded that the fascism had also been an important lesson to aware the European values.

The small countries are faced to serious challenge, pointed out the lecturer. Their task is to get rid of the intellectual and economic guardianship of the great powers. Strengthening their political weigh in the international relations would create some conditions for more harmonic world without conflicts.

The lecturer presented also the opportunities for academic exchange of students and lecturers at the Metropolitan University in Prague.

Prof. Mitchell Belfer is a visiting lecturer at the UNWE on the Erasmus programme for academic exchange. He is a Head of the International Relations and European Studies Department and during his stay at out university will lead lectures to students from the specialities International Relations, European Studies and International Economic Relations.
