The Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov and Ognyan Vassilev, Manager of The Revenues Factory company, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.
"This collaboration aims to further facilitate the creation of startups by the students. The legal framework and your help will be very valuable for us", said the Rector Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov and added that the idea is to create a sustainable model for the functioning of the startup ecosystem with the participation of the University. "After creating the idea for a startup, the students leave the University and implement it on a 'private basis', so it is good for the UNWE to have participation after the approval of the idea. Even if a student has a golden idea, there are always obstacles, especially bureaucratic ones, that can deny it or seriously delay it, so the University should be able to continue to support the students."
"We are ready to assist students to go to the next level - to implement their idea", said Ognyan Vassilev, who is also a graduate of UNWE.
Prof. Dr. Tsvetana Stoyanova, Vice Rector for Institutional and Business Cooperation and Student Policies, clarified that Ognyan Vassilev is already part of the jury of the Startup Competition devoted to 105th Anniversary of the UNWE, in which more than 30 teams have applied so far. She added that the participation in the jury has also been confirmed by the Ministry of Innovation and Growth, the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency, the Stock Exchange, Innovation Capital and many other partners. "The competition will be a serious event and will confirm the fact that we are number 1 also in this area as well."
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Angel Marchev from the Management Department and Coordinator of the Memorandum on behalf of the UNWE, pointed out that he and Prof. Tsvetana Stoyanova have a vision for the overall development of the Startup Hub as an accelerator programme and that The Revenues Factory Ltd. is the first partner to be involved in this initiative. "The idea is to provide startups through our partners with mentorship, training, contacts, maybe a capital and to provide this together as an opportunity. The UNWE Startup Hub could become an accelerator where people from outside the University could also want to come to be the UNWE startups." He added that the lecturers are also interest in doing startups.
