For a second consecutive year the UNWE holds preliminary examinations for admission in the format State Matriculation Examination in Bulgarian language and literature. The exam was attended by 225 students who registered through the university's website willing to apply to UNWE because the score of this test exam is valid for the entrance exam to our university.
The Vice-Rector for Educational Activity Prof. Dr. Matilda Alexandrova opened the event and welcomed the students on behalf of the Rector wishing them success in the exam and expressing her hope to see most of them at the opening of the new academic year. He explained to the pupils that they could choose from a wide range of Bachelor`s degree specialities in both full-time and distance learning and that in addition to a diploma from the UNWE, they could also obtain a diploma from a foreign university under a joint programme. "The UNWE is part of the elite university network ENGAGE.EU and it is in partnership with eight prestigious European economic universities from Germany, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands, France, Austria, Spain and Finland. You can also benefit from the internships and study abroad on the Erasmus+ Programme.

Prof. Dr. Matilda Alexandrova pointed out that over the current year it was celebrated the 104th Anniversary of our university which combines tradition and innovation and provides more than 25 electronic services. You can apply online for a dormitory, for a place in one of the 12 student blocks with a total of 5100 seats. "We have modern equipped classrooms, a fully renovated University Library and common area with all the facilities for learning and living. Apart from the good learning environment the students have excellent opportunities for sports at Bonsist Sports Complex”, said Prof. Alexandrova.

The prospective students were divided into three halls and before the start of the exam lecturers from the University introduced the secondary school pupils to the conditions provided by the UNWE. "This is a real European university with a European image and quality education", said Chief Assist. Dr. Ivan Valchanov, Scientific Secretary of the Economics of Infrastructure Faculty and lecturer at the Media and Public Communications Department. "This is my university, I have studied at all three levels of higher education here, and then I became a lecturer at the University. My lecturers have now become my colleagues. Here, besides obtaining knowledge and skills, one can also create a great environment. This is a place where you can truly build a foundation for your life ahead", said Chief Assist. Ivan Valchanov and explained that the partnership between the university and business, the internship and mentoring programmes, business academies provide an opportunity to start working during the studies.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nikolay Velichkov, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of the General Economics Faculty and Deputy Head of the Economics Department, welcomed the high school pupils for choosing to apply to the largest and most prestigious economic university in Bulgaria and Southeast Europe. "The curricula and programmes in the specialties have been developed taking into account the socio-economic challenges we face. They are tailored to the demands of the labour market and meet the highest requirements for the provision of quality educational services. It is no coincidence that we are the University No.1 with the highest accreditation assessment for providing quality education among all higher education institutions in Bulgaria", said Assoc. Prof. Velichkov.
The Director of the Educational Activity Directorate Dr. Ekaterina Deliverska instructed the participants on how the exam will be conducted in compliance with all the rules for the Bulgarian Language and Literature State Matriculation Examination. For the strict observance of the rules an organization was set up with quaestors from the Educational Activity Directorate.
The prospective students had the opportunity to test their knowledge on exam questions organized in three modules. These included multiple-choice, short free-response, extended free-response and text production tasks. Prospective students had the option of choosing between an essay and an interpretive essay.
