The International Economic Relations and Business Department organized a student competition within the framework of the XXII International Scientific Conference on Bulgaria's EU Membership: 16 Years Later. The topic the competition which has become a tradition coincides with the topic of the Conference.
The Head of the Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vasil Petkov said that the Department for a consecutive time had organized a student competition within the framework of the Scientific Conference and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Svetla Boneva, initiator and organizer of the annual conferences of the International Economic Relations and Business Department dedicated to the membership of Bulgaria in the European Union and Secretary General for Research Projects of UNWE, reminded that it was the consecutive student competition to which students from the speciality International Economic Relations as well as students from all other specialities had been invited.
"Our department organizes a number of scientific conferences, competitions and other initiatives with the main objective to give you, our students, a field to express yourself, to create, to develop your skills, to become future Masters and PhD students", said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Svetla Boneva.
The Chairman of the jury Chief Assist. Dr. Stella Zhivkova, Scientific Secretary of the Department, introduced the members of the jury: Chief Assist. Dr. Christiyan Zhelev, Chief Assist. Dr. Valentin Bilyansky, Chief Assist. Dr. Margarita Ivanova and the Secretary of the Student Council Kaloyan Stefanov. She expressed thankfulness to the students for their hard work and wished them success both in the competition and in their future professional pursuits.

28 students of specialities International Economic Relations, International Banking and Financial Markets, Financial Control, Business Data Analysis Using Specialized Software and Business Informatics and Communications took part in the competition and each of them presented his paper to the jury within 6 minutes.

The participants, including also foreign students, were developed extremely interesting themes covering all aspects of Bulgaria's development after its accession to the European Union on 1 January 2007.
Regarding the economic sphere, the presentations included topics about the EU countries' investments in the Bulgarian economy, the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, the functions of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Large part of papers by the participants in the competition were devoted to the communications with an emphasis on the business communications, intercultural shock and how to deal with intercultural business communications within the EU.
The topic of tourism marketing, branding of Bulgaria as well as the youth engagement was also concerned.
The first place was won by Kostadin Kotsev, speciality International Economic Relations, with the topic Specificity of Business Communications and Business Negotiations with Counterparties from Greece".

The second place was won by Petar Solakov, speciality International Economic Relations taught in English, with an essay on the European Union Common Fisheries Policy.

The third place was won by Kristen Radoslavova, speciality International Economic Relations, with the topic Telephone Business Communication.

All the participants in the competition were awarded diplomas.
